Fire crews battling blaze at electrical substation on outskirts of Glasgow

Fire crews are battling a blaze at an electrical substation on the outskirts of Glasgow.

Crews were alerted to reports of the fire at the substation within the West of Scotland Science Park in Bearsden at around midday.

Four appliances were mobilised to the scene next to the University of Glasgow's Wolfson Wohl Cancer Research Centre, with crews remaining in attendance as they work to extinguish the fire.

There are no reported casualties.

The Beatson, which has a facility in the area, tweeted: "There has been a serious fire in an electrical substation near the Beatson Institute on the Garscube Estate which the fire brigade is attending to. We are waiting for more information but everyone is safe."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 12.06pm on Tuesday, 9 August to reports of a fire affecting an electrical substation on Switchback Road, Bearsden.

“Operations Control has mobilised four appliances and crews remain in attendance as they work to extinguish the fire. There are no reported casualties.”
