Fire crews battle two huge blazes in West Lothian as thick smoke pours into sky

Firefighters are currently battling two huge blazes in West Lothian.

Crews were initially scrambled to an address on the B9080, between Threemiletown and Linlithgow, at 11am today. Six fire engines and two specialist appliances are currently at the scene working to control the inferno.

It is understood the blaze erupted in an outbuilding on farmland where livestock is being contained. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service ( SFRS ) confirmed there were no reported human injuries.

An hour later, firefighters were also sent to a nearby address on the same route. Crews attended the scene at 12pm today but there are no reported injuries.

A spokesperson for the SFRS said: "We were called to attend to reports of an outbuilding on fire on the B9080 at 11am today. Operations control has mobilised six appliances and two specialist appliances to the scene. There are no reported injuries. Firefighters remain at the scene.

"SFRS was also called to a fire at a nearby address at 12pm today. Firefighters remain at the scene."

Officers from Police Scotland are currently assisting firefighters with a road closure in place.

Meanwhile, a 'very high' wildfire warning has been issued in Scotland today as temperatures are set to surpass the heatwave threshold this week. A warning is in place for the East and South of the nation and will stay in place for the next five days, ending on Monday, August 15.
