Fire breaks out at Pizzarova restaurant on Park Street

A blaze broke out in a Pizzarova restaurant in Bristol city centre last night (May 8) with multiple fire crews called to put it out. Avon Fire and Rescue Service was called to Park Street at around 9.30pm amid reports of a fire in the restaurant.

According to an eyewitness, smoke could be seen coming from the front of the restaurant near the top of the window at 9.52pm, although no flames were seen. The cause was linked to an extraction motor system, according to duty group commander Dave Hodges.

Two crews were called from Temple and one was called from Bedminster and a turntable ladder was also deployed, the fire service said. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus put out the fire using a carbon monoxide extinguisher.

Photographs show that a section of Unity Street was cordoned off last night as the fire was dealt with. Pizzarova has now confirmed that the branch will remain closed for "a few days".

It is one of Bristol's most popular restaurants for pizza, with a sister site on Gloucester Road and a new branch coming soon to North Street. The chain shared a message on its Instagram page stating: "Park Street will be closed for a few days after our extractor fan over heated last night. Thanks to the fire crew for coming down to make sure everything was okay!

"Although there were no flames, these situations are always a bit scary so we are sorry to have alarmed the locals after such a lovely sunny weekend. We’ll keep you posted on when we get a new fan fitted, thanks for everyone’s messages (it seems we weren’t the only ones basking in the heat)."
