Fire bill passed in Maharashtra assembly

MUMBAI: You will be alerted 24x7 on your mobile handset through an IOT-based sensors if any of the fire safety parameters in your highrise apartment (22 storeyed and above) in Mumbai such as water tankers, sprinklers, pumps, fire extinguishers, alarms, manual call-points etc fail. And the system has to be installed compulsorily to ensure real time monitoring and quick repairing to keep building fire-proof all the time.

Same system will also be applicable to the buildings with 7 floors and above in the rest of the state. These are part of the amendments to the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act that were passed by the state legislative assembly on Thursday. The Fire audit will be mandatory for 10 plus buildings every two years and any breach of rules stipulated in the Act shall attract the penalty up to Rs 1 lakh, the amendment suggested.
