Finglas woman raises funds for hospitals after fiance loses battle to cancer

A Finglas woman is raising funds for hospitals after her fiance lost his battle to cancer.

Robbie Dyland was a member of the army and a huge Dublin GAA fan who could always be always found on Hill 16 during matches.

He spent almost two years in and out of St. Vincent's Ward in the Mater Hospital while receiving his treatment and always talked of doing a fundraiser for them in the future.

Robbie's family and friends have organised three fundraising events taking place this summer.

His fiancé, Lauren Maher, is looking after the fundraiser and proceeds will be going to those who looked after Robbie when he had cancer.

Lauren told Dublin Live: “Robbie passed away nine weeks ago and this is his business.

“He was in the army too so everyone came together and we’re doing three fundraisers.

The Burnout Room will be on May 28. We’ll have music, spin bikes and anyone can come along on the day. We’ve 12 machines, therapy rooms, it’s a fun circuit room.

“The funds will go towards the Mater Hospital, St. Vincent's Ward. Robbie was there for a year and a half getting his treatment.”

Robbie was 29-years-old when he passed away and was due to celebrate his 30th birthday next month.

The Defence Forces organised a ceremony for Robbie last month and hosted a raffle with all proceeds and donations going to St Vincent's Ward.

The Burnout Room, Robbie's part-owned business, will run an event May 28 2022 that includes a full day of classes with 100 percent of money raised donated to the cause.

As well as that, the women in Robbie's life have all registered for the woman's VHI mini marathon on June 5 2022.

Once they have collected all donations they will pass everything onto St. Vincent's Ward, the Mater Hospital as a thank you for all they did for Robbie.
