Want to know your Chinese zodiac sign? Use our interactive widget to find out! This Chinese New Year on January 22, we’ll be celebrating the Year of the Rabbit.
Rabbit was the fourth of the animals to finish the great race, marking the beginning of the 12-year cycle of Chinese zodiac signs. Legend has it that Rabbit was proud of his speed and often mocked the slowness of his neighbour Ox.
During the great race - which was arranged by the Jade Emperor to decide the order of the zodiac - Rabbit set off early, but then lay down for a nap, thinking he would win easily. When he awoke he had been beaten by three other animals - including Ox, who he had always looked down upon.
But despite Rabbit’s arrogance, people born in the Year of the Rabbit are said to have soft and tender personality traits. They normally keep a modest attitude and are pleasant to those around them, avoiding quarrels as much as possible.
There are 12 Chinese zodiac signs: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Each sign is named after an animal, and each has its own unique characteristics. To find out yours, simply enter your date of birth into the interactive below.
