Final Fantasy VII Revelation got its second major trailer during gamescom Opening Night Live 2026, with Square Enix focusing on the Weapons that will threaten Cloud and the rest of the party in the final part of its Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy. Director Naoki Hamaguchi appeared on stage to introduce the footage, which showed Ruby Weapon, Emerald Weapon, and Ultima Weapon in their new forms.
Ruby and Emerald Weapon were optional superbosses in the original Final Fantasy VII, and Square Enix is keeping at least some of that role in Revelation. Several Weapons will appear as particularly difficult endgame encounters and serve as callbacks to their original battles.
The trailer also revealed Typhon as a summon and showed more ways to move around Revelation’s expanded world. Cloud can travel using Chocobos, parachute into areas from above, and use a grappling hook to navigate parts of the environment, adding to the Highwind exploration Square Enix showed when it first revealed the game in June.
Cloud and Tifa’s new FITS abilities were also shown off again, with Cloud wearing his Warrior outfit and Tifa using Black Mage. FITS, short for Function Integrated Tactical Suitwear, effectively adds a job system on top of the trilogy’s existing weapons and Materia, with outfits granting characters different abilities and new movesets.
Square Enix first revealed Final Fantasy VII Revelation at Summer Game Fest in June, alongside an extended gameplay presentation hosted by Hamaguchi and Vincent Valentine voice actor Matt Mercer. The third game picks up after Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, with Meteor approaching the planet, Sephiroth nearing godhood, and the party using the Highwind to travel freely between regions including Wutai, Mideel, and the Northern Continent.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation releases in spring 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Unlike Remake and Rebirth, which spent significant periods as PlayStation exclusives, the trilogy’s finale will launch simultaneously across all announced platforms during the original Final Fantasy VII’s 30th anniversary year.
