Whether you're a fan of black-and-white classics like Casablanca and King Kong or modern sci-fi like Blade Runner and Inception, chances are you've seen at least one Warner Brothers movie in your lifetime. FRANCE 24 film critic Lisa Nesselson has seen nearly 100 of them. As the iconic Hollywood studio marks its 100th anniversary, she tells us about a retrospective of Warner films currently showing in Paris.
France's passion for bringing old films back into theatres is also on display this week with the re-release of the restored works of groundbreaking French writer and director Jean Eustache. We take a look at his film "The Mother and the Whore", which is about a messy Parisian love triangle in the wake of the sexual revolution and scandalised Cannes 50 years ago.
And finally, Lisa tells us about "The Island" from Romanian animator Anca Damian. Described as an "upside-down Robinson Crusoe", this semi-musical "washes over you in layers of inventive delight" while treating down-to-earth themes including a subtext about the treatment of refugees.
