Fifth of us instantly regret a holiday booking straight after making it

More than a fifth of remorseful Brits instantly regret a holiday booking straight after making it - while a quarter end up hating their travel partner so much they wish they'd gone with someone else. A startling 22% of Brits instantly regret their holiday choice straight after booking it, with a further third (34%) rueing their decision when returning from their trip.

They admitted to wasting on average an eye-watering £1,111 on breaks they wish they hadn't bothered with. According to ONS data the UK collectively had 58.7million holidays, meaning that almost £6.5billion has been wasted on holiday regrets by the nation.

More than two-thirds (67%) of Brits are now choosing their holidays and hotels solely based on value for money. The survey, conducted by travel giant On the Beach, revealed that hard-working Brits are prioritising jet-setting trips - even when cash is tight.

A whopping 75% said they'd spend less on groceries and nights out to make sure they can still get their holiday fixes. The research further revealed that hotels were the main spoiler of holiday fun for Brits, followed by choosing the wrong destination and suffering sub-standard entertainment.

But it's not just the location and hotel choice that has led to holiday regret. More than a quarter (26%) admitted to feeling stressed when faced with picking their travel partner and ultimately regretting who they decided to holiday with.

To make pricey holiday regret a thing of the past, On the Beach has created a new online booking tool. 'More Beach for your Buck Holiday Tool' scours thousands of hotels hand-picked based on price, value for money, fantastic customer feedback and good trip advisor ratings.

Chief Customer Officer for On the Beach, Zoe Harris, said: "We certainly don't want anyone to regret booking a holiday, so that's why we have set up a system to make sure a sun-soaked trip ticks all the right boxes. Though sadly we can't help when it comes to who you choose to go away with - that's all on you.

"Holidays aren't just a time for people to kick back, relax and enjoy a well-earned jolly. We also help people book a place based on it being 'great for the gram' - meaning sun-seekers can be sure to capture picture-perfect shots with green-eyed pals back home.

"We know that the cost-of-living crisis is impacting summer holiday plans for many of our customers this year. So we've done the hard work for them and searched through thousands of hotels and holidays deals to bring holidaymakers the best hotels offering the best in value at the very best price.

"These 'More Beach for your Buck' holidays do exactly what they say on the tin, give our customers more for their money, and our handy new tool will help them match them to their perfect holiday in just a few clicks. Our handpicked 'More Beach for your Buck' holidays are not only great value, they feature some of the best hotels in the best destinations all with that little something extra.

"Whether it's a hotel just yards from the beach, all-inclusive with a multiple-Michelin starred chef, or all the Starbucks coffee you can drink, we'll help our customers find the exact holiday that they have in mind.

"We can guarantee that they won't experience any feelings of regret when they return. Regret is a word that shouldn't exist when it comes to holiday bookings – before, during or after.

"With our 'More Beach for Your Buck' holiday online tool you can trust the process and leave the regret part to one too many cocktails or getting sand in your bits instead."
