The brace did more than boost his Golden Boot hopes. It also pushed Mbappé past Messi on the all-time FIFA World Cup scoring list, with the French forward now holding the record with 22 goals across World Cup tournaments.
Messi, however, still has one more shot at adding to his tally when Argentina face Spain in the final on Sunday (July 19).
