FIFA have rejected France's request to have their disallowed injury time goal against Tunisia overturned after falling to defeat in their final group stage clash. Antoine Griezmann thought he had scored a late equaliser for Les Bleus in a much changed side, having qualified for the last-16 already at that point.
The reigning world champions stuttered though as Wahbi Khazri gave Tunisia the lead in a must-win game for his nation. It appeared as though those hopes of finishing second were finished in cruel fashion by a late finish, but that was ruled out, though Australia's win over Denmark meant they succumbed to third place.
However, in bizarre fashion, the French Football Federation (FFF) put in a request to have that disallowed goal overturned again after an apparent mistake in the officiating. The initial decision was ruled out due to Griezmann being called as offside, despite the fact that defender Montassar Talbi headed the ball before it landed to the Atletico Madrid forward.

That wasn't the main problem for France though, who had a complaint surrounding the protocols determined by the VAR in reviewing the goal. If it was full-time immediately after the goal was ruled out, then it could have been reviewed after full-time, however there was a kick-off and then shortly after another whistle for full-time, invalidating any possible check.
A statement from FIFA in response to the claim from France reads: "The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has dismissed the protest submitted by the French Football Association in relation to the Tunisia v. France FIFA World Cup match played on Nov. 30."
It comes as a bizarre decision to appeal the goal, given the fact that it makes little to no difference in how things pan out for Les Bleus in the tournament. It would give them an extra point in the group stages, which wouldn't impact the standings for either them or Tunisia.
While France have seen their appeal rejected, their attention must turn to the quarter-finals of the World Cup, where they will face England. Didier Deschamps will be hopeful he can guide them to back-to-back titles, which would make them only the third team to do so.
