FIFA 22 tuning update nerfs AI defending and is live now on PS5, Xbox Series S/X

EA Sports has released Live Tuning Update 4 for FIFA 22 this week, which focuses on the effectiveness of AI defending.

Live Tuning Updates allow EA Sports to roll out a selection of changes in FIFA 22 without requiring a full Title Update, usually being minor tuning changes that can be implemented faster and with more frequency throughout the FIFA calendar. Tuning Update 4 can be downloaded as of Tuesday, March 15, 2022 by shutting down and relaunching FIFA 22 when you receive an in-game message regarding the update.

The latest Live Tuning gameplay changes is now available on FIFA 22 for players on Stadia, PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X, and it aims to fix the impact of AI defending in-game. This update is not available on last-gen consoles such as the Xbox One or PlayStation 4.

FIFA 22 Live Tuning Update 4 patch notes

You can check out the full FIFA 22 live tuning update 4 notes below, with the update aiming to target how effective AI defending is around the box, and the depth of the AI midfielders whilst defending.

These are the notes from the FIFA Forums in the latest tuning update:

  • Increased the width of defensive lines in situations where the opposing side’s ball carrier is at the edge of the penalty area, or even closer to goal.
  • Increased the separation between defenders when an AI defender shifts their position to cover a potential shooting lane.
  • Reduced how deep AI midfielders can drop back into their own team’s penalty area.

Many FIFA players have found scoring goals tough in FIFA 22 due to how effective the AI is defensively, with this update looking to allow players to get through the AI defensive line and stopping players from relying on the AI when defending.

FIFA 22 is the latest game within EA's popular FIFA video game franchise, which released worldwide on Friday, October 1, 2021. The game is available now on all platforms including Xbox One, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Stadia and PC.
