EA Sports has confirmed that a brand new FIFA 22 FUT promo, named Fantasy FUT, will be released later this week.
After the 'What If' promo debuted for the first time ever in FIFA 21 Ultimate Team, the promo is now likely not to feature in FIFA 22, with Fantasy FUT likely to take its place and follow a similar format according to various leaks and rumours. The FUT 'What If' promo featured boosted dynamic player items that were eligible to receive an additional one-time plus two overall upgrades based on their team fulfilling 'What If' scenarios based on their team's real-life performances.
In FIFA 21 Ultimate Team, attackers and midfielders included in the 'What If' promo could upgrade if their team scored six or more goals in their next five domestic league games, whilst defenders and goalkeepers would upgrade if they managed one clean sheet during the same period.

However, according to leaks on social media, it seems the Fantasy FUT promo may have three upgrade possibilities, along with the ability to receive a plus three upgrade rather than a plus two. So, what can we expect from the brand-new FUT 22 FUT Fantasy Promo?

Fantasy FUT confirmed release date
With the FIFA 22 FUT Birthday event set to conclude on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 17:59 PM GMT, the Fantasy FUT promo will be the next FIFA 22 Ultimate Team promo, with EA confirming that it will be released on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 18:00 PM GMT.
A teaser for the promo including a countdown to its release along with the confirmed card design can be seen on the FUT 22 loading screen, confirming the release for this upcoming Friday.
In the loading screen, there are two different card designs, potentially hinting at two different versions of players, similar to the FIFA 22 FUT Versus promo earlier in the FIFA 22 calendar.
The 'What If' promo spanned over a two week period in FIFA 22, with two squads being released along with themed objectives and squad building challenges. We can expect to see similar content in the Fantasy FUT promo. In the 'What If' promo, a total of 31 players were released over the two weeks, so expect a similar number in Fantasy FUT's promo.
Also, there could potentially be another swaps token event released alongside the Fantasy FUT promo, a scheme which we've seen in FUT 22 for a handful of promos, including. FUT Birthday, Future Stars and Winter Wildcard.
Fantasy FUT explained
According to the reliable @FutSheriff on Twitter, the Fantasy FUT Promo is expected to be a new version of the 'What If' promo, but with new ways for the live player items to upgrade.
In the FUT 21 'What If' promo, attackers and midfielders upgraded if the player’s club scored at least six total goals in their next five domestic league matches from the time of their release in-game.
Defenders and goalkeepers would upgrade if the player’s club kept at least one clean sheet over their next five domestic league matches, and if the players hit these targets, they would receive a one time, permanent plus two boost to their overall rating.
All these targets were based on their team's performance, but according to @FutSheriff, there could be three separate ways for players to upgrade in Fantasy FUT, based on both individual and team performances.
These are the three supposed upgrade possibilities:
- Play three of their team's next five games (+1 overall)
- Win one of their team's next five games (+1 overall)
- Attackers and midfielders: Score one goal or register one assist in the next five games (+1 overall for Attackers and Midfielders)
- Defenders and goalkeepers: Keep one clean sheet in the next five games (+1 overall for Defenders and Goalkeepers)
If a player was to complete all three upgrade possibilities, they would receive a permanent plus three boost to their overall rating. If a player was to complete two of the three upgrade possibilities, they would receive a permanent plus two boost to their overall rating, and if a player was to complete one of the three upgrade possibilities, they would receive a permanent plus one boost to their overall rating.
If a player is unable to complete any of the three upgrade possibilities, they will not receive any upgrades to their Fantasy FUT player item.
Fantasy FUT leaked players
Only a few players has been reportedly 'leaked' on social media so far ahead of the official release, with information on the promo yet to be released by EA Sports.
According to @FUTZONEFIFA on Twitter, Manchester United's Marcus Rashford is set to feature in the upcoming promo, whilst the reliable @DonkTrading claims that Newcastle United's Allan Saint-Maximin will feature. @FutSheriff has also claimed that there could be a themed objective to earn a Fantasy FUT player item by competing in FUT Online Friendlies.
