Over 1,100 detained in Turkey after protests erupt following arrest of President Erdogan's main rival

Turkish authorities have detained more than 1,100 people across Turkey since fierce protests erupted after police arrested the main rival to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

A Turkish court on Sunday jailed Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu pending trial on corruption charges, in a move that triggered the country's biggest protests in more than a decade.
