The fiancée of a foreign TV cameraman found dead in the UK has shared a devastating tribute to her late partner, telling him “wait for me”.
Joseph Day, a 31-year-old New Zealander who had been living in the Clifton area of Bristol in the UK with his long-term partner Kelsey Mulcahy, vanished without a trace over the weekend.
Mr Day, who had previously worked as a camera operator for New Zealand’s TVNZ network, had suddenly stopped responding to his fiancée's messages around 9.30pm on Saturday.
On Tuesday, Avon and Somerset Police issued a statement saying they had located and recovered a body from Bristol’s Avon Gorge in the early hours of that morning, which they believed to be that of Mr Day.
In a heartbreaking Facebook post, shared along with a gallery of Mr Day, Kelsey paid tribute to her late fiancée, who she said had “changed [her] life forever”.
“My dude, my guy, my soulmate, my Joseph,” she wrote.
“Empathetic, creative, funny, generous, humble, kind, clever, protective, gentle.
"The most handsome guy in every room by a mile.
“The most beautiful heart and goofy laugh and smile.
"Committed to becoming a better version of yourself every single day."
She added: "No one could understand how we feel about each other.
"No one understands that behind closed doors you are only even more wonderful.
“Changed my life forever, no one could ever compare. You made me love myself again.
"Would take a lifetime of this agony for just one more day with you.
“I love you I love you I love you. I’ll never stop. Mrs Day in my heart forever.
“Wait for me."
Ms Mulcahy had travelled to London from their home in Bristol on Saturday and was texting Joseph up until 9.30pm, when he suddenly stopped replying.
She said it was exceptionally out of character for Joseph not to be in touch with her.
The couple were due to go to Bath Spa yesterday and Kelsey had said she was “terrified” that something had happened to Joseph.
The couple moved to Clifton in January from New Zealand and do not have many friends in Bristol.
Kelsey's friends had travelled over from London to help search for him.
Mc Mulcahy told Nine Newspapers that the pair had adored each other and had not had problems in their relationship.
“I would be truly honest if we did,” she said.
She had reported Mr Day’s disappearance to police and had appealed for help on Facebook, with her post having been shared thousands of times.
“If you have any information at all, if you’ve seen him anywhere, please reach out and let me or the Avon and Somerset police know,” she had written.
“This is extremely out of character for him, we always keep in touch every minute of the day.
“Everyone who knows Joe loves him very much, he is incredibly special to me, and his family and friends. Please help and share so we can find him.”
It is understood that police did not launch a formal appeal until Monday, some 24 hours after Ms Mulcahy reported her Mr Day as missing.
The couple had reportedly planned to return to New Zealand at the end of the year to tie the knot.
