It seems the days of Coachella literally being the festival equivalent of the Met Gala are officially over, as celebs opted for casual and comfortable vibes with their Coachella outfits over full-on dopamine dressing.
Back in the day, the iconic festival (which takes place in Indio, California) would see A-listers and influencers alike, dressed up to the nines in bold, Instragram-ready ensembles—fit for Coachella and Coachella alone. This year, however, there seemed to be a huge style shift, with the likes of Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber instead attending the event in low-key looks, closer to their everyday street style.
Minus Hailey's glow-in-the-dark Coachella nails, the festival's VIPs all looked like they'd stepped straight off the sidewalk of NYC and we must admit, we're kind of obsessed with their nonchalant, accessible cool-girl fits...
The best casual celebrity Coachella outfits
It's not an exaggeration to say that the usual Coachella fits—like face gems and neon hues to the bikini and sheer dress combos—weren't exactly looks we could take inspiration from for our everyday capsule wardrobes.
However, 2023's festival offerings seemed to give more of that, with names like Emma Chamberlain, Suki Waterhouse and her Daisy Jones & The Six bestie and co-star, Camila Morrone, opting for classic denim, loose-fitting shirts and seriously chic sunnies. Though we'd like to add that Emma Chamberlain's sunglasses game is always on point but she was pulling out her best pairs for Coachella (especially with these Giant Vintage shades).
Even Hailey and Kendall, who are frequent attendees, toned it way down. Hailey's earrings were the boldest part of her fit as she opted for low-rise, baggy jeans, a white tank top and a bomber jacket, while Kendall brought the coastal-cowgirl vibes with black jeans, a white tee and cowboy boots.
Kylie Jenner also went casual, wearing a denim maxi skirt and either a white or black leather jacket and matching sunglasses over Coachella weekend.
Clearly, the theme was 'less is more' with denim and IT-girl Adidas Sambas abound, which is something we definitely want to channel this spring/summer season. So, for anyone with major FOMO, who's looking to recreate these laid-back Coachella-inspired fits, here's where to shop the essentials—on a budget too!
How to recreate these casual, celebrity Coachella outfits IRL
The first must-have piece is a good ol' pair of wide-leg jeans. These seemed to be very popular pants at Coachella and will pair perfectly with all your tank tops, tees and blouses—especially if you wanted to copy Rosalia's Coachella look but make it more day-ready.
Double denim also made an appearance at the festival, so if you want to incorporate some '70s fashion cues in your fits, style your jeans with a matching denim top, vest, or jacket.
Tanks tops and white tees were also everywhere and are already an absolute essential for the warmer months.
You'll then want a bomber-style or leather jacket to layer with your jean and t-shirt combo...
