Ferran Torres sends Manchester United warning to Barcelona teammates ahead of Europa League tie

Barcelona forward Ferran Torres has admitted that he and his teammates will have to be prepared to "suffer" when they face Manchester United in the second-leg of their Europa League tie at Old Trafford on Thursday evening.

After contesting a pulsating 2-2 draw in the first-leg at the Camp Nou last week, both sides will fancy their chances of getting the job done and progressing to the last-16. They have both been in excellent form in recent months and each recorded domestic victories at the weekend.

In the eyes of many, however, United will head into the second half of the tie as favourites to come out on top, pointing towards their excellent record at Old Trafford this season. Erik ten Hag's side have turned M16 back into a fortress this season and have won 14 of their last 15 matches on their own patch in all competitions.

And although Torres, who spent two years at Manchester City, is confident that Barcelona have the talent within their ranks to cause United problems, he is aware of the size of the challenge awaiting him and his teammates.

"We will have to run like there is no tomorrow," said Torres. "It will be a game of patience and knowing how to suffer.

"The Premier League is a very physical league, it's true, but we have a lot of talent and that's also important. We're going with everything and above all with young people ready to take on the world."

Torres, who stepped off the bench in the latter stages of last week's stalemate against United, was awarded a rare start during Sunday evening's 2-0 win over Cadiz and earned special praise from boss Xavi.

Torres added: "He [Xavi] congratulated me after the Cadiz game. We talk often but I'm not one of those footballers who ask why they don’t play.

"I like competition and I have it here. Ousmane Dembele is doing an extraordinary job."
