Ferran Soriano confirms Man City stance on Pep Guardiola contract

Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano has confirmed that the club intend to renew Pep Guardiola's contract.

Guardiola has one year remaining on his current deal and has said that while he will not betray the club he will not be hurried into a decision over his future. In one recent interview, he even suggested he would not confirm one way or the other until the end of his contract.

City won their fourth league title in five years on Sunday, pipping Liverpool by a point to confirm their status as the best team in English football. As the team celebrated another triumph, their CEO told Catalan radio RAC 1 that the club wish for Guardiola to continue as manager for as long as possible.

"The desire is for Guardiola to stay at City forever, why not? It is possible," he said.

Jurgen Klopp recently signed a new deal at Liverpool, confirming their intent to continue attempts to dislodge City at the top of English football. The Anfield club have already won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup this season and could make it three trophies when they take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

City have succession planning in place to ensure they stay competitive - and signing Dortmund striker Erling Haaland will help immensely in that - but Soriano has confirmed that the club's primary aim is to retain Guardiola for as long as he is happy to manage.
