Ferne McCann has finally revealed the inspiration behind the name of her young daughter – saying she named her after a skin cleaning product.
The 31-year-old former The Only Way Is Essex star shares her four-year-old daughter, Sunday, with her convicted criminal ex-boyfriend Arthur Collins – who is in jail for crimes relating to an acid attack in a London nightclub in 2017.
Ferne opened up about how she decided to name her daughter after she was born in November 2017 during an interview on the Sam and Billie Podcast – hosted by her good friends Sam and Billie Faiers.
And it seems inspiration struck when Ferne was giving her own face a good scrub back when she was pregnant with her child – as she decided to name her after a cosmetic product.
Speaking on the podcast, Ferne revealed: “So the name Sunday was because I was using a face cleanser by the brand Sunday Riley. It was like, a clay mask.
“And I just thought like, you know, like many other make-up and beauty brands with a females first name and second name, you could probably think of some in your head. I just thought that was her name.
“And I was like; ‘That’s so nice! That is just such a lovely name!’”
Ferne went on to explain she had some other names up her sleeve and that she didn’t 100 per cent commit to the name Sunday until after her daughter arrived.
She explained: “I had others such as Roberta and lots of different ones. I didn’t have any boy names.
“And when she arrived, I was just like; ‘Yeah’. Obviously I feel like you’ve got to see your baby’s face and it just felt so, so right.”
Elsewhere in the podcast there was an awkward moment when Ferne effectively told her best friends Sam and Billie that she doesn’t even bother listening to their podcast.
Putting Ferne on the spot, Sam asked: “So Ferne, we speak about you regularly on the show. I don’t know if you listen to us?”
Ferne then inadvertently threw herself under the bus by revealing that, no, she doesn’t tune in week after week and instead just listens to highlights on social media – and that her assistant listens to the show instead.
She explained: “I’ve tuned in… I’ve tuned… erm… Do you know what? I really like the bite sized bits on social media.
“And my PA, she listens to your podcast regularly and she said; ‘Oh! This come up about you the other day!’ And I love it.”
Ferne also teased that fans will soon see her back on TV in two new projects – with the next series of her reality show, First Time Mum, coming to ITVBe tomorrow night.
And she will also be seen as a contestant on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins – which she said was “tougher than childbirth”.
