Fermanagh’s favourite pub owner thanks public as he picks up award

The owner of Fermanagh’s favourite pub as voted for by our MyFermanagh readers has thanked the public for voting for them.

Well-known publican and Boho man Dessie McKenzie picked up the award on behalf of the Linnet Inn this week. The historic rural pub beat off stiff competition from other popular bars throughout the county.

Dessie says he was delighted to get the backing of local people in Co Fermanagh to win the award.

“Customers just seemed to latch on to the social media campaign and thankfully vote for the Linnet Inn,” Dessie told MyFermanagh.

“It was a very nice award to get, people clearly like coming out here and they enjoy the craic and look forward to coming out.

“That’s kind of what you’re hoping for when you run a small business. We didn’t promote it too much but it was nice to get it and know that your customers think that much of you.

“That’s something we can treasure now and something we can boast about for a long time.

“There’s a wall beckoning now for a few of these awards that we have won. It’s great to have the name out there and makes you relevant to people not necessarily from the locality.

“It puts us on the map again and lets people know that we’re still here and still trading and open for business.”

The business owner added that it has been a busy summer period so far for The Linnet Inn.

“We’ve had a great summer period so far, the weather has been mixed but it can be a bit of a blessing in disguise at times. You get some of those dull evenings with a bit of rain and people like coming in to you.

“But with the good weather too we have a bit of a beer garden now and we get a lot of farmers here in the area who would be our core customers. They’re always busy but when the work’s over they love coming in for a drink and a chat.”
