Fermanagh actor on importance of local theatre groups ahead of Ardhowen performance

Actors from the local Enniskillen Amateur Dramatic Society are gearing up for their latest comedy whodunnit ‘The Games Afoot’.

The show takes place at the Ardhowen Theatre between 16, 17, and 18 of February, with a portion of the tickets sold going towards the Fermanagh branch of the Riding for the Disabled Association.

Hailing the importance of local theatre, Deborah Fallis, who plays Daria Chase in the show, says she recently returned to performing after what she refers to as a ‘small break’.

“I was in theatre 15 years ago and took a small break to have six children and went back to it last year,” Deborah says.

“I said I’d always come back to it when there were no nappies in the house so now that I’ve a wee bit more time to get back into it I’m enjoying it.

“It gives you a wee bit of focus in January as well as you’re not out doing an awful lot, it’s nice to have something to work towards and get out with a lovely group and have a bit of fun.

“I just really enjoy being part of it, I think it’s really important whether you’re on stage, backstage crew or setmaking or whatever it is.

“It just brings a lot of different people together from the community and it’s alwaysa a lovely thing to be part of.

“It’s important to keep that alive because I think the arts are really struggling a wee bit during these times.”

The cast is comprised of actors from both Fermanagh and Donegal and directed by Nick Hambly.

Following an attempt on his life, Broadway star William Gillette (Christian Carbin) invites his cast-mates to his home to celebrate Christmas with him as he recovers.

Tickets are available from the Ardhowen website or by contacting the box office on 02866325440.
