THE second Ferguson Marine CalMac ferry will be delayed until May 2025, the shipyard boss has said whilst apologising for further “significantly understand” costs.
On Friday, chief executive David Tydeman announced in his quarterly update that Hull 802, named the Glen Rosa, would now not be complete until May 31, 2025.
The ship had been initially delayed until the winter of 2024.
The boss made it clear it could be delayed even further if there are issues with the trials of its sister vessel – the Glen Sannox.
Tydeham said since taking over Ferguson Marine he has “regrettably” reported cost and delay issues to the Scottish Government’s Net Zero, Energy and Transport Committee every three months.
He added that the total estimated cost for the Glen Sannox was £130m, plus a contingency costs of up to £12.1m.
The total cost of Glen Rosa was £110m plus a contigency of up to £18.5m.
“I regret to advise that the financials I set out in my June 2023 letter to you did not include £10m of work in progress in May and June 2023 with our operations and technical teams (with key contractors for Glen Sannox, negotiating new prices and costs to complete design and work-scope increases) that the finance team had not been able to capture in reports to me,” Tydeham said.
“As a result, I significantly understated the total forecast cost to complete Glen Sannox for which I apologise.”
