MIAMI - On Tuesday night, multi-platinum and nine-time Latin Grammy-nominated Colombian artist Feid accepted the El Premio ASCAP Award for "Songwriter/Artist of the Year." Though he has been honored with several El Premio ASCAP Awards, this year marks his first win in a main category, being recognized for his outstanding songwriting on hit songs like "Classy 101," "Hey Mor," "Niña Bonita," "Normal," "Yandel 150," and "Feliz Cumpleaños Ferxxo."
During the gala, to which The Latin Times was invited, Carlos Vives also was honored with the prestigious ASCAP Founders Award, a recognition presented by Paul Williams and Afo Verde, president of Sony Music. Previous winners of the award include Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Rod Stewart, James Taylor, Steven Tyler and Stevie Wonder, plus Latino super stars Marc Anthony, Rubén Blades y Arturo Sandoval.
However, the most salient part of the night was when el Ferxxo unexpectedly stepped into a new role as a translator for fellow artist Carlos Vives. This heartwarming moment was just one highlight of a night filled with triumphs and revelations, including a teaser about Feid's upcoming album with Yandel.
Carlos Vives big honor
Vives dedicated his award "to all who create music to unite the world." On the red carpet, he spoke about his musical journey, emphasizing authenticity and originality in his exploration of Colombian music. "That's what I think made people fall in love with my music," he told The Latin Times.
The gala took a humorous turn when Vives, upon receiving his award, jokingly lamented his lack of fluency in English, suggesting that Feid might serve as his translator. In a spontaneous and delightful twist, Feid jumped on stage, translating Vives' heartfelt acceptance speech.
"I was just joking, but thank you, man," said Vives.
In addition to this unplanned role, Feid himself was honored as Composer/Artist of the Year. He humbly dedicated the award to his team and his family, stating "I am just the face."
The Colombian superstar, who is preparing for his second world tour 'Ferxxocalipsis Tour', also dropped exciting news about a forthcoming album collaboration with Puerto Rican colleague Yandel, with whom he has two big hits.
The ASCAP event wasn't just about Feid and Vives; it celebrated the creators and publishers of last year's most performed Latin music songs. Yng Lvcas, who composed 'La Bebé (Remix)', with Peso Pluma and was selected as the ASCAP Latin Song of the Year, expressed his amazement at the song's far-reaching success. Universal Music Publishing Music Group took home the Publisher of the Year Award, with hits from various artists, including Feid.
An emotional moment was the recognition of reggaeton pioneers Baby Rasta and DJ Playero, who received their first ASCAP Award for their collaboration on Rauw Alejandro's 'Punto 40'.
Also, another Colombian mega talented artist, Keityn, won the award for Composer of the Year for songs such as "Monotonía" and "Acróstico" by Shakira; "Amargura," "Cairo," and "Mi Ex Tenía Razón" by Karol G, among others.
