Federal safety regulators have told households to stop using a combination smoke and carbon monoxide detector sold online because it can fail to sound when smoke and fire are present. The warning covers TJTFJS 2-in-1 detectors, model TJ00907, and it was one of two detector warnings the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued on August 20, 2026.
The pairing is the part worth noticing. Detectors that stay silent occupy a category of their own among household hazards. A failing appliance announces itself through heat, noise, or a tripped breaker. A failing alarm announces nothing. It removes the only warning a household would get, and it does so while the mounting bracket on the ceiling tells everyone in the house they are protected.
