A sitting federal judge, US District Judge Reggie Walton, has strongly condemned former President Donald Trump's recent attacks on the judge overseeing his criminal case related to alleged hush money payments. Judge Walton expressed concerns that such statements pose a threat to the integrity of the American legal system.

Trump's criticisms of Judge Juan Merchan led to a gag order being issued against him earlier this week. Judge Walton, who rarely speaks publicly about specific legal or political matters, emphasized the importance of judges being able to carry out their duties without fear of threats or intimidation.

Speaking on the importance of upholding the rule of law, Judge Walton highlighted the critical role of independent judicial officers in ensuring that laws are enforced equally for all individuals. He stressed that a functioning court system is essential for preserving democracy and preventing tyranny.

Despite gag orders in place in some of Trump's legal cases, including the federal election interference case, the former president continues to criticize judges and other individuals involved in his court proceedings. This has led to an increase in court-imposed gag orders to prevent interference with the legal process.

As Trump's criminal trial approaches, set to begin with jury selection on April 15, concerns about threats against judges and their families persist. Judge Walton emphasized the importance of ensuring fair treatment for all individuals in the courtroom, regardless of their background or actions.

Trump faces multiple charges related to falsifying business records in connection with hush money payments made before the 2016 election. The former president has pleaded not guilty and denied allegations of an affair with adult film star Stormy Daniels.
