Fears Frank Reagan 'fires' grandson Joe Hill after breaking FBI protocol in Blue Bloods

Blue Bloods' upcoming episode has sparked fears that Frank Reagan will sack off his grandson Joe Hill after breaking strict FBI protocol during a joint task force mission.

The hit-CBS show continued its 13th season earlier last week as it showed a messy reunion between characters Danny Reagan and Mickey Patrick.

The pals, played by Donnie Wahlberg and Tom Cavanagh respectfully, were reunited in the most recent episode of the cop crime drama.

It also showed Erin, played by Bridget Moynahan, as she began her career – but it’s the upcoming episode which could see the end of someone's career.

The series returns on Friday for another instalment and this time shows a case for Danny and his partner Maria Baez, played by Marisa Ramirez.

But the Reagans family descends into chaos when yet more drama occurs during a mission, as Joe makes a simply unforgivable mistake while on duty.

A synopsis for the next episode, Past History, reads: "Danny and Baez race against the clock to catch a serial killer targeting young women across the city.

"Also, Erin and Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray) clash when Eddie intervenes in a murder case and Erin’s personal life.

"And Frank must decide how to discipline his grandson Joe Hill when Joe breaks protocol while working on a joint task force with the FBI."

Joe's painstaking mistake hasn't been revealed as of yet, so it is unclear how severe the Commissioner’s punishment will be.

But a protocol breach within the FBI is a serious issue, so Frank's disciplinary action could have a permanent effect on his grandson’s career.

This is a first for Joe, who has often butted heads with Frank’s more traditional approach to policing – but he's never got into this much trouble.

The Commissioner could be forced to make an example out of the young detective.

While it's obvious Blue Bloods bosses aren’t going to axe Hochman from the show entirely, he could have to take a break from police work for the time being.

Whether or not Joe receives a demotion, a suspension or is fired altogether is still yet to be revealed.

Blue Bloods continues on CBS on Friday.
