Plasma that can be stored on a shelf at room temperature and mixed for transfusion in minutes is now licensed for use in the United States for the first time.
The Food and Drug Administration announced on July 29 that it licensed Ezplaz Freeze Dried Plasma, and the agency was specific about who it is for. Ezplaz is cleared for transfusion in adult patients who need plasma and for whom other plasma products are not available. That availability condition is part of the license, not a footnote to it.
