FC Barcelona vs Lyon: Women’s Champions League final prediction, kick off time, TV, live stream, team news

Barcelona face Lyon on Saturday night in the Women’s Champions League final and it promises to be a memorable occasion.

The Spanish side are the defending European champions, after beating Emma Hayes’ Chelsea side 4-0 in last season’s final in a dominant display to lift the trophy for the first time.

There’s been no let up since - Barcelona won 30 out of 30 matches to cruise to the league title, conceding just 11 goals and scoring an astonishing 159.

Arsenal and Real Madrid are among those sides to have been swatted aside in the Champions League this season, before a 5-3 aggregate win over Wolfsburg in the semi-finals. More than 91,000 fans were in attendance for the first-leg at the Nou Camp.

Lyon made it through to the final by the same scoreline, beating big rivals PSG in the last four. Nobody has won this competition more times than them, with seven titles to their name, and last season was the first time since 2015 that it wasn’t the French side lifting the trophy.

It’s a repeat of the 2019 final, when Lyon won 4-1, but this is a Barcelona side that have gone to another level since then.

Date, kick-off time and venue

The Women’s Champions League final is scheduled for a 6pm BST kick-off time on Saturday May 21, 2022.

The Juventus Stadium in Turin will host.

FC Barcelona vs Lyon team news

Alexia Putellas looks set to star for Barcelona again as she aims to finish as the competition’s top scorer.

Asisat Oshoala has missed periods of the season with a knee injury but that problems looks to be behind her, and she can be expected to start alongside Jennifer Hermoso and Caroline Graham Hansen.

Nobody has scored more goals in the competition’s history than Ada Hegerberg and she will be the main threat up front once again for Lyon.

An ACL injury kept her out for almost two years before her return in October, and victory against Barcelona would cap off another superb season for the Norwegian striker.

FC Barcelona vs Lyon prediction

Goals are usually on the cards when Barcelona play - their second-leg defeat to Wolfsburg in the last round was the first time they have failed to score in a match for nearly two years.

It’s a match between two sides that are not used to losing, and is likely to be tighter than last year’s final between the Spanish side and Chelsea.

Lyon dominated this competition for so long, but it’s Barcelona who look to have the firepower to defend their title and continue their own era of success.

Barcelona to win, 3-1.
