FC Barcelona is reportedly eyeing a potential transfer move for Bayern Munich's Joshua Kimmich this summer. According to sources, Bayern Munich is open to negotiating a sale for the talented midfielder ahead of the upcoming season.
Last summer, Barcelona's head coach Xavi Hernandez had shown interest in Kimmich as one of his top targets following the departure of club legend Sergio Busquets. However, due to financial constraints, Barcelona had to settle for Oriol Romeu instead.
Romeu, a La Masia graduate who had a promising start with the club, faced setbacks in form and fitness, leading to limited playing time. As a result, Barcelona is in need of a long-term solution in the defensive midfield position vacated by Busquets.
With Bayern Munich reportedly setting a price tag of $65 million (€60 million) for Kimmich, several top clubs including Manchester City, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in acquiring the 29-year-old midfielder.
Given Barcelona's financial challenges, the club may opt to wait for Kimmich's contract with Bayern Munich to expire in 2025 rather than meeting the transfer fee demands. Barcelona has previously succeeded in convincing players like Ilkay Gundogan to join the club on a free transfer, showcasing their ability to attract top talent without significant financial outlay.
