Kash Patel, 46, director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and country singer Alexis Wilkins announced their engagement on Sunday, 4 October. Wilkins, 27, wrote 'Went and got the law involved' above their photo on X. The announcement quickly drew attention, not only for the couple's relationship but also for the unusual security arrangements surrounding Wilkins.
Past FBI directors' spouses were protected while travelling with them but did not receive a personal government security detail, The New York Times reported. Patel, however, authorised a full-time security team for Wilkins after taking office in February 2025. According to an FBI official quoted in that report, the team included four Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) agents and two vehicles. SWAT units train for hostage rescues and violent arrests. The official said Patel overrode advice to seek a legal review first.
