FBI adds India-born Manjit Singh Bedi to Most Wanted Fraudsters List for $600,000 SNAP benefits fraud

The FBI has added India-born Manjit Singh Bedi to its Most Wanted Fraudsters List over his alleged role in a SNAP benefits fraud scheme that caused at least $600,000 in losses to the US government.

Bedi, a naturalised US citizen, is believed to be in India after allegedly fleeing the US through Canada.

Alleged SNAP benefits fraud

According to the FBI, Bedi ran Asian Grocery Store in Tacoma, Washington, where he allegedly used customers’ Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards to withdraw SNAP benefits.

Instead of providing food, he allegedly gave customers cash and kept half of the proceeds. The FBI said the scheme operated between March 2024 and June 2025.

The agency said Bedi was indicted on charges related to wire fraud and SNAP benefits fraud.

After his indictment, Bedi was allowed to appear in court without being arrested. He was ordered to surrender his passport and remain in Washington state.

The FBI said Bedi later drove into Canada before fleeing to India.

A federal arrest warrant was issued on May 21, 2026, by the US District Court for the Western District of Washington after Bedi was charged with violations of conditions of supervision.

FBI offers $150,000 reward

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to Bedi’s arrest and conviction.

In a post on X, the FBI said Bedi is currently believed to be residing in India and provided details about the case and the reward.
