Fausto Vera would be a good fit for Celtic if they can do a deal for the Argentinian midfielder.
The Argentinos Juniors star is the latest name to be linked with a move to the Premiership champions. Brazilian Vinicius Souza was Ange Postecoglou ’s top midfield target, but he’s set to join Espanyol from Lommel in Belgium. Now attention is turned back to South America after one of Vera’s compatriots was added earlier in the window. 21-year-old left back Alexandro Bernabei arrived from Lanus in £3.75million deal to provide competition for Greg Taylor.
He made his Hoops debut in their first pre-season friendly. Bernabei impressed during the first half as the Bhoys eventually ran out 7-0 winners over the Austrian minnows. And he could be joined at Celtic Park by Vera. No offer has yet been made for the Under 23 international. His current contract is set to expire in December, but Argentinos have the option of extending that by a further 12 months, so could be tempted to sit tight until then and try to land a bigger fee in January.
Argentinian football journalist Roy Nemer can see Vera fitting in well at Parkhead though. He tweeted: “Interesting to hear that Celtic are being linked with Fausto Vera from Argentinos Juniors. They recently signed Alexandro Bernabei, Still only 22, the midfielder has represented Argentina at youth level.
"I think he could do well. At 22, a move to Europe for him would be good. He was one of Argentina’s better players last year at the Olympics (that’s not saying much) but would be interesting to see him play Champions League.”
