A father-of-three has been fined for being in possession of a knife.
When police stopped Mohammed Rasool he appeared to be “extremely nervous.”
His nerves and his lack of explanation as to why he was in Neilston’s High Street after 11pm on November 30, 2020, led cops to search his car and they found a Stanley Knife.
At Paisley Sheriff Court, Mohammed Rasool, 50, admitted he was in possession of a the blade.
Procurator fiscal depute Amber Feeney told the court: “Around 11.15pm on November 30, police had reason to stop the accused in his car.
“Details were noted and the accused was confirmed as the driver.
“Police noted the accused to be extremely nervous and he was unable to provide an explanation as to why he was in the area.
“Police suspected Rasool to be secreting something.
“Due to being unable to provide an explanation and being overly nervous police performed a search.
“During the search in the glove compartment, a Stanley knife was discovered.
“The accused was unable to provide a reasonable excuse for his possession of the knife.
“Rasool stated he believed the knife to have been there for a few weeks.
“He was cautioned and charged and made no reply.”

Defence agent Jim Clarke told the court Rasool had the knife in his car as he had previously used it earlier in the year to “disassemble a lawn mower” he had borrowed.
Mr Clarke said: “He understands people can’t freely carry knives.
“He isn’t working just now but he is ambitious of starting up his own business.
“He has three teenage children to care for and rather than imposing a community payback order, I ask that this matter is dealt with by a fine.”
Sheriff Bruce Erroch QC said: “There are a number of factors in your case that concern me, you have previous convictions and you don’t accept full responsibility for this.
“It’s a case where you were in possession of a knife and knives harm people.”
Sheriff Erroch QC fined Rasool, of Deaconsgrange Road in Glasgow, £380 to be paid at £30 per month.
