The father of a three-year-old boy he allegedly fatally stabbed in Sydney's south has been charged with murder.
The man who cannot be named for legal reasons is currently under police guard in hospital, where he was arrested and charged.
Police were called to an apartment complex in Riverwood at about 4pm on Wednesday, by a female relative who found the child's body.
The 45-year-old man was found inside the unit with critical stab wounds believed to be self-inflicted, before paramedics took him to hospital in a critical condition.
He had been staying with a female relative at the unit in Riverwood with his son after the boy's mother died several years ago.
The father had previously been living with a new partner, who NSW Police earlier said was co-operating with their investigation.
He was refused bail and is due to appear before Parramatta Bail Court via video-link on Saturday, June 3.
