Authorities in West Haven, Connecticut, arrested a Queens, New York, resident after he was caught attempting to drown his children at a beach early Saturday morning. The suspect, identified as a 42-year-old man, Romney Desronvil, is accused of deliberately trying to drown his kids in Long Island Sound.
The incident unfolded around 2:30 a.m. when a police officer patrolling the area heard significant screaming coming from the water. Upon investigation, the officer discovered an SUV parked on the beach and observed an adult male and two small children in the water.
As the officer approached, the suspect reportedly moved further into the water with his children and shouted at the officer to stay back. It became evident to the authorities that the man was intentionally trying to drown his children.
Quick action by the patrol officers and collaboration with the West Shore Fire Department led to the rescue of the children, who were immediately rushed to a local hospital. Both children were admitted to the intensive care unit for treatment.
The West Haven Police Department commended the swift response of the officers, stating that their timely intervention saved the lives of the children. The collaborative efforts of the fire department and the New Haven Police Department also played a crucial role in providing medical aid and apprehending the suspect.
The investigation into the incident has been taken over by the Detective Division, and criminal charges against Desronvil are pending. More information will be shared as the investigation progresses.
