On Saturday evening, a tragic incident unfolded near Tennessee State University (TSU) in Nashville, as a suspect opened fire, resulting in the death of at least one person and multiple injuries to several others. The fatal shooting occurred just before a homecoming football game was set to begin at around 5:10 p.m., with TSU scheduled to play against Eastern Illinois University at Nissan Stadium.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) swiftly responded to the situation, confirming the occurrence of the shooting at the intersection of Jefferson Street and 27th Avenue North. By 6:30 p.m., MNPD announced on Facebook that the area was secure and that the victims had been transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
During a subsequent briefing, MNPD Public Information Officer Brooke Reese disclosed that a 24-year-old male had tragically lost his life in the incident, with a total of 10 individuals confirmed as victims of the shooting. Of these victims, five were taken to hospitals by the Nashville Fire Department, while the remaining five arrived in private vehicles.
Reese further revealed that among the injured were three juveniles, who were fortunately in non-critical condition and were promptly transferred to a children's hospital for specialized care.
