Fashion design duo Dsquared2's London: From The Wolseley to Dover Street Market

Home is...

Home is more than a place you live, home is where our heart is! Home is being surrounded by people who love you, who are with you both in good times and bad times.

Favourite hotel?

We love Chiltern Firehouse. It’s a mix of glitz, glamour and style but above all, we feel so at home there. Great food, ambience, impeccable service but also amazing decor and interiors — we love the whole place.

Where was your first flat?

Notting Hill. We used to live in a beautiful white townhouse. For us, it was like living in a small village in the middle of London’s hectic lifestyle.

Best place for a first date?

The Wolseley is timeless. So elegant, chic and the perfect spot for something special in a quintessential British setting.

Which shops do you rely on?

We’ve always loved wandering around The Conran Shop in Marylebone — both of us are really into interior design and we are always on the look-out for interesting pieces. We’re also guilty of owning way too many coffee-table books for two people and have always found ourselves drawn to Assouline and Taschen. We can always rely on Dover Street Market for unique pieces. We also love going to antique markets — Alfies is a favourite.

Most memorable meal?

There are so many great places in London that make it hard to choose, but if we had to pick only one, it would certainly be The Ledbury in Notting Hill — the food is super (we are big fans of the constantly changing menu and the service). We spent way too many weekends there with our friends.

Best thing a cabbie has ever said to you?

They are generally quite curious about our life as twins. The funniest thing is when each of us gets in from different doors and the driver sees us in the mirror thinking, ‘Am I seeing double?’

If you could buy any building and live there, which would it be?

The Tower of London. It’s one of the most iconic structures in the country and a symbol of royalty: we love the building itself, the gardens, and we would definitely love to live there (of course keeping the Crown Jewels for ourselves!).

Who is your hero?

Vivienne Westwood — she was at the forefront of the fashion world for several decades and her bold and unconventional designs have impacted the modern fashion landscape immensely. Also, freedom has always been something that meant a lot to her and something she strongly conveyed in her work; it’s also something very important to us and something we like to channel.

What makes someone a Londoner?

Creativity, a certain sense of self-confidence and always prepared with an umbrella. We love the energy in London, the clubs, the international outlook and how vibrant the city is. We feel like we’re in the centre of the world when we’re here.

Favourite work of art?

We love to go to a lot of the modern galleries — Unit, Gagosian, Pace, Tate Modern of course, Saatchi Yates, Maddox Gallery, the list goes on and on. Art is a big part of our life and design inspiration.

What are you up to for work?

We’ve opened a new flagship store on New Bond Street and we are in London to celebrate this. It’s an important milestone for us, we love London and had our first shop here back in 2015, so we really wanted to have a major presence. We need a Dsquared2 touch here!
