Farting pigs, cyber ninjas and sand sharks: how a gaming studio from Stockholm conquered the co-op market

Josef Fares, head of Hazelight Studios, is a busy man at the best of times. But this week, it’s a surprise he’s even managed to find time for an interview. “It's our release week, you could say, so we have a lot of stuff happening,” he says.

Doesn’t he just. Hazelight has become one of the industry’s buzziest game studios in the years since Fares launched it in 2014. Based in Stockholm, Sweden, they’ve only released three titles so far. Nobody does co-op games like Hazelight; their last game, It Takes Two, came out in 2021 and racked up tens of awards nominations for its inventive gameplay, thoughtful narrative and seemingly never-ending well of creative ideas.
