A bakery in St Pauls has been named in a list highlighting the best bakeries in the country. Writers from the Financial Times selected their favourite local businesses to compile a guide of Britain's best bread - and Farro on Brunswick Square was one of 20 that made it onto the list.
Farro Bakery has only been open since 2019 - founded by Bradley Tapp - but garnered a reputation for its loaves at farmer's markets before launching its first shop. The bread is made with freshly ground, locally milled flour, displayed alongside an ever-changing array of pastries and cakes. Everything is baked from scratch on-site, with customers being able to catch a glimpse of the process.
Recommended by Camilla Bell-Davies, the writer said: "Head here for flaky French kouigns, canelés de Bordeaux and puff pastry filled with poached rhubarb and white chocolate custard.

"The bakes might be traditional – think Italian panforte, sourdough boules and sticky canelés – but Farro’s approach is wholly modern, offering twists in the form of peach-filled choux pastry, croissant honey crisps and orange and tonka bean pastéis de nata. Their grains come from agroecological and organic UK farms."
Other south west bakeries that received a mention include Frome's Rye Bakery, Landrace Bakery in Bath and Coombeshead Bakery in Launceston, Cornwall.
Sharing the news online, the bakery said: "Super proud of the team at Farro, taking up space alongside some of our favourite bakeries in the @fthtsi top 20 bakeries in the UK! Great to see so many bakeries making the list that are championing fresh milled, locally grown flour and supporting local/uk farmers. Proof that the stonemilled fresh stuff simply taste better!"
The bakery is open Tuesday to Sunday and also trades at Whiteladies Road Farmer's Market every Saturday - one of the places where is first started trading.
Farro is located at 1 Brunswick Square, St Pauls.
