THE Osborn family has launched the region's first egg vending machine located at the gate to their farm on Brush Farm Road at Raworth.
Sam Osborn, who runs the business Just Been Laid along with her husband Brahm Osborn and their two children, said their chooks are pastured which means they are happier, and their eggs tastier.
"It's going really well," Mrs Osborn said.
The vending machine was installed at Easter and was being refilled twice per week, she said.
"It's been really well received," she said.
"People want to know where their food is coming from."
The eggs are laid by chooks which are pastured - they sleep in caravans and then spend all day out on the grass being "natural chooks", Mrs Osborn said.
The vending machine idea was born about ten years ago when she came across something similar in Queensland.
"I just love that convenience, and having real food available in a vending machine was something."
Mrs Osborn spoke to a couple of different organisations before finding a team in Sydney who were able to configure a machine to handle cartons via an elevator so the eggs didn't drop.
"It's kind of a novel thing," Mrs Osborn said.
The machine can dispense cartons of six or 12 eggs, and it is being filled up a couple of times per week.
Just Been Laid eggs are also available via subscription, which involves signing up and collecting your eggs from one of a handful of outlets including coffee shops.
