Agricultural leaders have warned that British farming has endured its most difficult summer in a generation, battered by extreme weather, escalating costs and widespread disease.
In response, National Farmers’ Union president Tom Bradshaw has called on the Government to underwrite "crisis loans" for struggling producers. He also urged ministers to introduce tax and planning reforms aimed at reinforcing the nation's long-term food security.
