(Picture: Getty Images)A British far-right activist is set to be extradited from Spain and could be jailed for up to 15 years on terror charges, according to reports.
Liverpool-born Kris Kearns, 37, ran a network of men’s fitness group on behalf of the controversial nationalist Patriotic Alternative group, a previous report from The Times states.
The group was founded during the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020 and has amassed up to 15,000 followers online.
A Spanish court has approved his extradition following accusations that he encouraged violence against non-white people, Spanish newspaper, El Diario.
Court documents allege that Mr Kearns spread hateful messages while managing a channel on Telegram with more than 1,800 subscribers although his lawyers claim there is no proof against him.
He is also accused of encouraging violence against ethnic minorities and on two occasions, he is accused of posting links to documents that encouraged people to carry out terrorism.
These included links to the manifestos of Brenton Tarrant – who killed 51 people in Christchurch, New Zealand – and Norwegian terrorist, Anders Breivik.
The National Court in Spain said: “The supposedly criminal material was spread through social networks from his domicile in the province of Alicante addressed to subjects who were residing in the UK.
“The messages are all in English and to understand the relevance it is sometimes necessary to have an understanding of the ideology of the extreme UK right.”
An international arrest warrant was issued by Westminster magistrates’ court on February 21 for two counts of dissemination of terrorist material.
The National Court in Madrid has said that Kearns should return to Spain to serve his sentence if found guilty as he is now based there after leaving the UK three years ago.
His defence said in a statement: “Diatribes against immigrants, multiculturalism or the Jewish people, although highly objectionable, can be protected by freedom of expression and within an ideology of the extreme right.”
