Fantasy Premier League postponement rules and changes explained following Queen's death

This weekend's set of Premier League fixtures have all been postponed as a mark of respect following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Queen Elizabeth II passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2022 aged 96, after reigning over the United Kingdom for 70 years. As a mark of respect, all football in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and all professional football in Scotland has been postponed this weekend, and it may be postponed the following weekend due to the Queen's funeral.

The postponement of Premier League football will also have an impact on the Fantasy Premier League competition, with GW7 no longer taking place. Many questions are sure to be asked about points, fixture rearrangement, transfers, used chips and the possibility of a double gameweek in FPL following the postponement. Here are the FPL postponement rules and changes explained following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

What will happen to my GW7 FPL transfers?

Following a confirmed FPL gameweek postponement, all FPL players will receive one free transfer, as if the GW has ended and a new one is beginning. If you had no free transfers left in GW7, you will now have one free transfer in GW8.

If you had one free transfer in GW7, you will now have two free transfers in GW8. But, if you had two free transfers in GW7, you will remain on two free transfers in GW8, with managers not able to have more than two free transfers at a time.

How many points will I get from GW7?

If you took a points hit to make additional transfers in GW7, they will reflect your overall score in GW7. Every team will have scored zero points in GW7, but if a player had taken a minus four points hit to make an extra transfer, their overall score for GW7 will now be minus four.

These point reductions will also affect Head-to-Head league matches. As stated by FPL, if neither player made a transfer, both players will score zero, and one point will be awarded to both. But, if you took a point hit to make more transfers than your opponent, you will lose your H2H for GW7.

What will happen if I used an FPL chip in GW7?

If a player activated their Triple Captain, Bench Boost or Free Hit Chip in GW7, the chip will be reinstated to their account to use at another time. If a player used their Wildcard, this will roll into GW8 and will not be reinstated to a player's account.

What will happen to the fixtures from GW7? Will there be a double game week?

Every postponed fixture will be allocated a new date, and in FPL, this will cause a Double Gameweek. A Double Gameweek is when a single team has two fixtures in one single FPL gameweek.

For example, if the GW7 fixtures got re-arranged for GW25, then all points earned from players in the rearranged fixtures will go towards their GW25 score, not their GW7 score. Double gameweeks are a great opportunity for players to use chips such as Bench Boost and Triple Captain as players have a better chance of big point hauls.

If GW8 was also to be postponed, then the same would apply again. GW8 would roll over with no points scored, and a new date will be decided for the fixtures.
