Fans have said they are 'totally devastated' after the BBC axed a popular comedy show after just three series.
The Tuckers, starring the show’s creator Steve Speirs and Fresh Meat’s Kimberley Nixon, has been axed to make way for ‘brand new comedy series’.
Set in the Welsh valleys, the show followed the Tuckers, a close-knit family of loveable rogues who aren’t always on the right side of the law.
It first aired in 2020 and was a hit with fans, but the BBC announced it would not be back for a fourth series.
“We’d like to thank the series’ creator, writer and actor Steve Speirs for bringing the Tuckers to life, as well as the incredible all-Welsh cast,” the broadcaster said in a statement.
“After three series we bid the characters farewell and look forward to announcing some brand new comedy series soon.”
Show creator Steven Speirs took to Twitter to express his sadness The Tuckers hadn’t been recommissioned.
The Welsh star, who has also appeared in shows such as Stella alongside Ruth Jones and huge movies like Pirates of the Caribbean, wrote: “For all those asking about the next series of TUCKERS. Sadly, it’s not been recommissioned.
“To everyone who followed the lives of Peggy, Billy, Bobby, Nats, Shaks, Lush, Clock, Dawn and Melvyn... THANK YOU.
“I’m sure Glyn and Murphy are still arguing down that bog as I type xx.”
Fellow Welsh actor Kimberley Nixon, who played Lush on the show but is best known as Josie in Fresh Meat, also expressed her disappointment.
Sharing the news on Instagram, the 37-year-old wrote: “With a heavy heart, I can confirm The Tuckers are no more.
“We won’t be coming back for a series 4 but I have the most incredible memories of working with the most incredible people. We laughed so much. We got to make something at home.”
She added: “And the biggest thank you to Steve Speirs for putting together such a motley crew. Bye Lush. You were bonkers.”
News of The Tuckers being cancelled sparked outrage amongst loyal fans with one writing: “Totally devastated. I will still watch in repeat as it’s a proper cheer me up.”
Another said: “Absolute disaster. It was one of the best series I’ve seen in yonks captain.”
“Absolutely gutted, brilliant cast, brilliant writing. One of the few Welsh comedies my boyfriend found funny,” a third tweeted.
A fourth commented: “Ah sorry to hear that. Brilliant three series. Rubbish decision from the BBC.”
While a fifth added: “Very disappointing to hear. The BBC nationally did nothing to promote the show or give it a decent time slot on BBC1 or 2. It would have flown had they done that.”
The Mirror has contacted the BBC for further comment.
