The Miami Dolphins dropped their first game of the 2022 season on Thursday night at Paycor Stadium, as the Cincinnati Bengals walked away with a 27-15 victory.
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s injury was the biggest storyline of the night. He was slammed down on his back and head, and he remained down on the field for an inordinate amount of time before being stretchered off. While the Amazon Prime broadcast announced that he’s being released from the hospital, it was an extremely scary situation.
When it came to the actual performance of the Dolphins, their offense needed to be more efficient and get into the end zone. Two interceptions also significantly impacted their chances of winning.
Defensively, Miami was serviceable. They completely shut down the run, holding the Bengals to 2.2 yards per attempt on the ground. In the passing game, they were allowed to complete 65.6% of their passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns. It’s tough to see slow down that offense, especially when Xavien Howard is sidelined for a good chunk of the second half.
Throughout the game, fans were emotional, as you’d expect any fan to be.
I need Brandon Jones off my roster immediately

Oh boy. Everyone is going to handle that interception totally rationally, right?

THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT DEFENSE
— Mary Martinez (@maryisbananas) September 30, 2022
Oh no. Tua Tagovailoa is still down. He came down on his back and the back of his head with serious force. Tua's hands appeared to be put into an uncommon position.

Never seen someone’s hand lock up like that. Praying for Tua.

Man.. that was tough to watch.
Hope Tua’s alright

Everyone keep Tua in your thoughts. If you pray, pray. There is nothing more important than his long term health and well-being. Nothing.

I’m going out of character for this one. Prayers for Tua Tagovailoa and his family for having to witness that. I’m upset at what I’ve seen thus far. Credit to Bengals fans for showing class at the game. We hope he’s okay and we’ll be anxiously waiting for an update.

I normally don’t have much emotion when it comes to injuries. I have a general feeling that I hope each player can return healthy. But I’m upset about this Tua head injury because of what happened last weekend. It’s hard to not tie these together.

Miami fans been asking for Jaelan Phillips to show up in the stat sheet. There you go. He's been disruptive despite the lack of box score to show for it.

"Tyreek's down there somewhere" – Teddy Bridgewater, probably.

How do you fall for a double pass on 3rd and 11…
— Logan (@LoganTaylor34) September 30, 2022
Kader Kohou has taken his licks tonight, but that’s a HUGE play.
— South Beach Cards (@SBSCards) September 30, 2022
Teddy Bridgewater is the most overrated backup QB. I’d rather see Skyler in the game than this junk.

The @MiamiDolphins had the hardest 1st 4 game stretch of any team in the NFL and won 3 out of 4. I am so impressed with this team and all of my thoughts and prayers go out to Tua. Wishing, hoping, and praying for a perfect recovery. #TuaUp #FinsUp pic.twitter.com/wz0vT15sWa

3-1 against 4 good teams. The updates on Tua have been good signs. Tonight absolutely sucked, but this team is resilient, and we’re gonna keep fighting. Proud to be a fins fan tonight.

I hope that with the extra time to prepare for the next game that the Dolphins look at playing Skylar Thompson over Teddy. #FinsUp
