Fans go wild after what Manchester United loanee Alvaro Fernandez did on full Preston debut

Preston North End supporters waxed lyrical about Manchester United loanee Alvaro Fernandez after he grabbed two assists on his first start for the club to help them beat Huddersfield Town 4-1 in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

After stepping off the bench in each of Preston's opening two league matches, Fernandez was awarded his first senior start in English football by manager Ryan Lowe, tasking him with starting in the left wing-back berth. He excelled in the role, providing two assists to help the Lancashire outfit record their first win of the season.

A constant threat down the left side, Fernandez, who joined Preston on a season-long loan deal last month, set up Alistair McCann for each of his two goals in the space of just ten first-half minutes.

However, his evening was brought to an abrupt end at half-time, being forced off with an ankle problem. However, Lowe later confirmed that it was a precautionary decision, insisting there is no serious injury to be worried about.

But despite his evening being shorter than he would have liked, he wowed the North End supporters who had made the relatively short trip to the John Smith's Stadium, producing an eye-catching display. And the fans made no secret of their delight in his performance, hailing him on social media.

On Fernandez, who completed his 45-minute appearance with a 100 per cent pass completion rate, Lowe said: "He's an immaculate kid, though, isn't he? Everything about him. He's asked questions on a daily basis, is playing a different role to what he is probably used to at Manchester United - as a left wing-back for us, not left-back.

"The competition with him and Robbie Brady down that side, let's have it right, he is learning off one of the best - who has played in the Premiership. He is educating him all the time, even before the game and after the game.

"He is a fantastic talent - you don't play for Real Madrid and Manchester United if you are not any good. We knew that when we saw him, we knew he'd bring something different to us and he certainly did that tonight."
