Family waterpark to reopen in time for half term after four year revamp

A huge waterpark is reopening just in time to catch the first properly sunny weekend of the summer after closing four years ago.

Splash World waterpark in Southport, Merseyside will power up its flumes and wave machine on Saturday, May 27, having closed in December 2019 for a refurbishment that was only meant to last eight months.

Water lovers young and old will be able to rediscover Splash World's exhilarating aquatic adventures, just in time for the expected bustling summer season, Liverpool Echo reports.

Nestled on Southport's picturesque coastline, the water park has been a favourite destination for families, friends, and water enthusiasts for many years.

It offers a wide range of attractions, including thrilling water slides, a lazy river and interactive play areas suitable for all ages. There is also a new online booking system, meaning families can reserve tickets in advance.

As well as rides, the park also has Murtle's Diner on-site where you can get pizzas, sandwiches and other meals and snacks once you've tired yourself in the water.

Splash World reopens after a lengthy delay, partly due to the coronavirus pandemic, as well as building and funding issues.

Cllr Ian Moncur, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing said: "We are absolutely thrilled to welcome the public back to Splash World.

"Saturday’s reopening marks an exciting milestone for us, and we have taken every measure possible to once again provide an extremely enjoyable, safe experience for all visitors. Whether you're seeking an adrenaline rush on our exhilarating slides or a relaxing time in the lazy river, Splash World has something for everyone.

“Nobody could have foreseen the pandemic or that it would mean Splash World being closed for this length of time, but I know our teams did everything they could to ensure the venue was reopened as soon as possible.”

If the sun has got you in the mood for a dip but you're not close enough to Southport to visit Splash World, then heading to the coast may be the answer.

While many of the UK's beaches are regularly deluged with disgusting overflow from the nation's creaking sewage system, there are some coastal spots that are both beautiful and clean.

If you fancy getting some sand between your toes, then why not head to one of the 77 beaches in England, or 25 in Wales which have been awarded the coveted Blue Flag this year?

Blue Flag is an international award presented to well-managed beaches with excellent water quality that serves as a good guide for coastal destinations with clean water.

You can use our interactive map to find the nearest ones near you, or to see if the beach you’re planning to head to has won the award.

One particularly nice Blue Flag beach is West Wittering in Sussex, which is hidden halfway between Portsmouth and Bognor Regis on the famously sunny south coast of England.

The beach is known in certain circles for its clean waters and sands, as well the the 20-acre expanse of grasses and waterbeds which sits behind it.

Nature enthusiasts can see all manner of colourful butterflies and birds resting in and and flying between the wetlands' plants, while also taking a minute to rest on the dramatic sand dunes.
