Family stranded in Paris as Champions League final trip turns to 'nightmare'

A family has been left stranded in Paris and unable to get home following the chaotic events during the Champions League final.

Lisa Spicer, her fiancé Dave, her two children Danny and Molly and her nephew Rory have been stuck in Paris after travelling to the city to watch Liverpool FC play Real Madrid in the Champions League final. The family, huge LFC fans who have followed the team for decades, were on their "dream" trip staying at the Eurocamp site near Paris.

The family from New Brighton were due to get the ferry back to England yesterday, June 2, but following issues with their car gasket have been stranded indefinitely. Lisa's best friend Clare McGann told the ECHO this was meant to be "a momentous time for the family that has turned into a nightmare".

The garage in France which has taken in their car are quoting the family between £3-5,000 to fix it. Lisa only bought the car less than two weeks ago and is now waiting for her insurance company to help.

But Clare told the ECHO this is currently a slow process and the family are stranded in France while they wait for their insurance to resolve the issue. Clare, who has known Lisa for the last 15 years and called her "genuinely the nicest person you could hope to meet", said the family is "panicked" as the trip of a lifetime was already on a tight budget.

She said: "Lisa would give anyone the shirt off her back. She's been through a lot in her life but her positivity just attracts people.

"They've managed to extend their stay for a couple more nights at the Eurocamp but they're worried about getting home. Because they drove over with all their camping things it's not as easy as coming back with just a suitcase.

"They don't know how long it will take for the insurance to come through and then they don't know if they'll even be able to bring the car home."

Clare said Lisa, who was in Istanbul for LFC's famous win, and her family had a great time in Paris and were not caught up in the chaotic events outside the stadium which UEFA and the French authorities have been heavily criticised for.

The family spent their holiday with other LFC fans who were camping at the Eurocamp. Clare said they had "a really good day apart from the result" but now find themselves in limbo and stranded in France.

Clare has set up a GoFundMe page to keep the family fed, watered and to find alternative travel back home. The family are currently trying to get another ferry back with friends offering to collect them from Dover.

Clare said: "It's a really stressful time for the family. The family are keeping in good spirits at the moment - it's in their nature."
