Family 'overwhelmed' as huge convoy honours Bristol lorry driver killed in crash

The family of a lorry driver who died have been 'overwhelmed' with support after a convoy of vehicles was led through Bristol in his honour.

Andrew 'Andy' Palmer, 38, was killed in a truck collision in Holland on December 20, 2021. He had been driving lorries since 2006 and was the son of a lorry driver.

He worked for Opex Logistics as an international HGV driver.

The convoy, made up of both lorries and German muscle cars, started at Armstrong Way, Yate and made its journey to Westerleigh Crematorium at around 9am for Andy's funeral yesterday.

Supplied by Andy's family and friends, videos show the vehicles paying tribute to him with many trucks heard honking their horns on an 11-mile route in a deeply moving goodbye.

In a statement, Andrew's family said: "We are incredibly grateful and completely overwhelmed with everything yesterday.

"Each and every single person made it such a special day and the best send off for our beautiful Andy.

"Every single Lorry was pristine the convoy was such a perfect tribute.

"We would like a special mention for Opex Logistics as none of this would have been possible without their support."

A GoFundMe page has been set up in Andy's memory to raise money for Globe Truckers UK, a charity for the HGV industry.

On the fundraiser, it reads: "Andy is very highly regarded amongst the trucking community and in his memory, we have decided as family and friends to raise some money to help support other drivers and their families."

The fundraiser continues: "In Andy's memory [the charity] will be naming one of their own trucks after him, this is a great honour and anyone who knows Andy would know he would absolutely love the idea of having a truck named after him."

The fundraiser aims to raise £1,000 and has surpassed its goal. If you would like to donate to the family's fundraiser, click here.
