Family of young mum who collapsed on Turkey holiday say she is 'clinically dead'

A young mum of three who collapsed on holiday with swelling on her brain and heart is clinically dead with no chance of recovery, her family has said.

Melissa Kinsella, 30, suffered a seizure while on holiday with partner Jay Smith and their three children, Chloe, nine, Beau, four and two-year-old Romi. She had been due to fly home on Monday May 15 but was rushed to hospital after collapsing in the airport.

The mum, from Moreton in Merseyside, was put on a ventilator and a crowdfunding campaign to get her back to the UK raised enough to repatriate her. But following some initially hopeful updates her family has confirmed she will not recover, the Liverpool Echo reports.

In a devastating update posted on Friday, her mum Michelle Heathcote said: "Our hearts are broken forever after 12 days of fighting for our beautiful daughter's life test proves she is clinically dead. We have no words to express how we feel but thank everyone who helped us in any way to bring her home."

Melissa was flown home by air ambulance earlier this week. At the time, her family had reported positive signs of recovery in the young mum.

Michelle had said in an earlier update: "So a little positive news this morning, when her pops spoke she moved again and a tear rolled down her eye. Doctors said there is more brain activity today and just needs to bring herself out of a coma.

"Still critical but definitely positive today. She definitely can hear us."

Friend Rebecca Dath, who launched the fundraiser that raised over £50,000 in support of "Missy", said she had been complaining of illness the day before she collapsed. She told the Echo: "She was vomiting, felt unwell and that was the day before."

She added: "When she got to the airport, she had a seizure and collapsed. Doctors don't know what has caused it, but she has swelling on the brain and swelling on her heart.

"Missy's mum and dad were holidaying in Turkey in another area with Missy's auntie and uncles and cousins. Jay rang her auntie because her heart stopped and her children were there."

In a post made earlier tonight, Rebecca wrote: "I can’t believe I’m never going to hear your voice again. I am absolutely heartbroken, for your family, your girls, your friends.

"I’ll never have a best friend like you again because you were one in a million. I love you."
